After social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook solved their woes of hacking attacks, they had sooner or later found the solution. But now their security risks are again exposed by a security consultant Rob Bowes. He has, in form of a torrent, uploaded details of about 100 million Facebook users with their profile link, user name and unique ID. Bowes has made it clear that this move was mainly to highlight issues regarding security of the data.

To this, Facebook has asked its users to not to panic as the information was already public. The list of the users was uploaded at The Pirate Bay, the popular torrent file sharing website. In a statement, Facebook has said, “People who use Facebook own their information and have the right to share only what they want, with whom they want, and when they want.”

Bowes has said in a blogpost that he was able to index information only about the users and not their friends. He has also provided the name of the software that he used to acquire the information from Facebook. In an official statement, Facebook has said, “No private data is available or has been compromised. Similar to the white pages of the phone book, this is the information available to enable people to find each other, which are the reason people join Facebook.”
